Photo Journal - Nostalgic For Japan
A few snapshots from my May trip to Japan including, swan boats, Nakano Broadway, Godzilla, Studio Ghibli Museum, Jimbocho & Tokyo Disneyland.
Come along with me as I take a trip down memory lane.
Last May, I spent a few weeks traveling around Japan, and I thought it would be fun to share some of the highlights from my favourite days in Tokyo. From the bustling streets of Shinjuku filled with neon lights and giant Godzilla statues, to the tranquil temples of Inokashira Park surrounded by swan boats - Japan left me in awe at every turn.
But the adventure doesn't stop there—I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be returning to Japan this October. This time for a whole month of exploration with fellow book club member, Alex. With this in mind I’m planning a dive deep into the rich world of Japanese literature this autumn - so stay tuned for an upcoming series of book recommendations that will transport you straight to the heart of Japan’s literary culture. Whether you're a fan of classic works, or eager to discover contemporary voices, we’ll have plenty to share!

Kichijoji is a lively neighbourhood in Tokyo known for its blend of trendy shops, cozy cafes, and lush green spaces. There’s no better time spent than wandering the quaint streets of this tranquil suburban district. A highlight of the area is Inokashira Park, a serene retreat where visitors can enjoy a peaceful boat ride on the lake, often opting for the charming swan boats.
Nearby, the Studio Ghibli Museum offers a magical experience for fans of the beloved animation studio, with exhibits that bring iconic films to life. Kichijoji's unique mix of nature, culture, and entertainment makes it a must-visit destination in Tokyo.
Jimbocho - Book Town
Jimbocho, located in Tokyo, is a historic district renowned as the city's "Book Town." It's a haven for book lovers, with its streets lined with countless bookstores, both new and second-hand, offering everything from rare manuscripts to modern paperbacks.

Shinjuku & Harajuku - Electric & Eclectic Tokyo
Shinjuku is one of Tokyo's most vibrant and bustling districts, known for its towering skyscrapers, neon-lit streets, and a never-ending energy that pulses day and night. One of Shinjuku's iconic landmarks is the giant Godzilla statue, which looms over the Toho Cinema building, paying homage to the legendary kaiju.
Harajuku, a vibrant neighbourhood in Tokyo, often described as the epicenter of youth culture and fashion. Known for its eclectic mix of street styles, from gothic lolita to kawaii - Harajuku's Takeshita Street is lined with quirky boutiques, trendy cafes, and colourful shops.
The area is also famous for its Sunday gatherings in Yoyogi Park, where the Rockabilly dancers—dressed in 1950s-inspired attire—perform lively dance routines to classic rock 'n' roll tunes.
Tokyo Disneyland- The Happiest Place On Earth
Tokyo Disneyland, opened in 1983 and was the first Disney park to be built outside the United States. The park is divided into seven themed lands, including the iconic Cinderella Castle in Fantasyland, the adventurous thrills of Adventureland, and the futuristic wonders of Tomorrowland.
Tokyo Disneyland combines classic Disney charm with unique Japanese touches, offering a blend of beloved attractions, colourful parades, and enchanting shows that delight visitors of all ages. Arguably the best Disney park to visit in the world, Tokyo Disney is a homage to the beloved animator Walt Disney - and nobody loves Disney like Japan. Stay tuned for my spooky adventures in Tokyo Disneyland this year - as we visit this Halloween.
