During our visit in May, we spent a leisurely afternoon exploring the retro streets of this charming neighbourhood, hopping between cosy cafes and the shaded sidewalks. There’s a special thrill in discovering hidden literary treasures while browsing bookshop shelves in a different country - who know’s what you’ll find!

Jimbocho boasts a distinctive 70s and 80s retro vibe, with its blocky, multi-colored buildings giving the area a playful, Lego-like feel. This nostalgic ambiance, coupled with its literary heritage, perfectly captures the essence of Tokyo’s deep love for books. It’s no surprise that Satoshi Yagisawa chose this unique setting for his renowned novel, Days at the Morisaki Bookshop, reflecting the neighbourhood’s rich history and dedication to literature.
